South Florida commuters are getting a break for the year-end holidays.
Regularly scheduled lane closures and restrictions for construction and maintenance on Florida’s Turnpike and many other expressways and major roads have been suspended until Monday, Jan. 4.
On the Turnpike, however, motorists should expect heavy congestion at mainline toll plazas on the busiest holiday travel days, and intermittent traffic backups along certain stretches of the road, transportation officials said.
Once the holidays are over, workers will return to the usual project sites, such as the reconstruction of the massive interchange between State Roads 836 and 826 near Miami International Airport and the construction of toll express lanes on I-95, I-75, 826 and the Turnpike.
