A Brightline train smashed into a new Toyota on the tracks at Pembroke Road and North Dixie Highway in Hallandale Beach Wednesday morning.
Margarita Hall’s new Toyota was destroyed. Hall and all Brightline passengers were fine, Hall not being the car at impact and the passengers sitting in the southbound high speed train. The passengers were put on another train.
Just before 7 a.m., according to Hallandale Beach Fire Rescue, Hall was headed west on Pembroke Road when she wanted to turn left onto North Dixie Highway. Instead of crossing the tracks that split Northeast First Avenue and North Dixie Highway at that point, then turning south onto North Dixie Highway, Hall turned onto the tracks.
She drove about 150 feet before attempting to maneuver her 2019 Toyota off of the tracks. The car got wedged against the left-most rail. Hall got out of the car.
When the train operator saw a car on the tracks, he tried to stop but couldn’t slow down enough to avoid crunching the car. The Brightline pushed Hall’s car about 500 feet before being able to stop.
