A wrong-way driver was heading right at her. And she could only do one thing

A Jacksonville teenager trying to avoid a wrong-way driver Saturday afternoon crashed into a wooden post alongside Interstate 75 in North Port, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers were looking for the wrong-way driver, said to be a man in a light blue four-door sedan, according to a news release issued Saturday.

At 4:10 p.m. Saturday, the 17-year-old girl was driving a 2008 Volkswagen Beetle in the left lane of I-75 near mile marker 177 when she approached another car heading in the opposite direction in the same lane, the release states.

In an effort to avoid the wrong-way driver, the teen veered off to the right, ending up on the shoulder of the highway and the right side of the car crashed into a wooden post.

The wrong-way driver was last seen still heading south in the northbound lanes.
