My name is Barbara Schaefer and I was diagnosed with breast cancer on November 8, 1996. I am still here 13 years later, healthier than ever! Having no family in Miami, I relied on my husband, friends and co-workers for support. They went above and beyond the call of duty. I want to thank them and my wonderful team of doctors and nurses who cared for me. I could not have survived without Dr. Stephen Kanter, General Surgeon, Dr. Michale Troner, Oncologist; and most of all , Dr. Michael Kelley, my plastic surgeon who made me look normal again. This letter should be a testimonial to all who have not yet been diagnosed, and for those undergoing treatment, that breast cancer is survivable!
