Lewis is a registered Republican running as a no-party candidate. He has been an assistant state attorney in Orlando, an assistant attorney general under Democrat Bob Butterworth, an assistant statewide prosecutor and for the past 20 years has been an adjunct professor at Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale. Since 1993, he has been in private practice in Broward County. As a criminal defense lawyer, he is campaigning on a platform of sending fewer people to state prisons, especially for drug-related crimes.
