Drivers can expect traffic congestion in Little Havana on Wednesday afternoon when authorities shut down Southwest Eighth Street between 12th and 17th avenues for a Cuban exile rally.

The rally, organized by 2506 Assault Brigade in the wake of Fidel Castro’s death, is expected to attract thousands. Miami police will close the stretch of Calle Ocho starting at noon. Eastbound traffic, including Miami-Dade Transit buses, will be rerouted to Southwest First Street.

The rally is scheduled to start at 5 p.m. at a stage at Eighth Street and 13th Avenue, at the monument for veterans of the Bay of Pigs invasion. Police expect to reopen the street by 10 p.m.
