A fire that burned for more than 15 hours destroyed 1,502 stalls and caused an estimated $100 million in damages at the Mercado Oriental, the main market in the Nicaraguan capital city of Managua.
Authorities said the blaze began Thursday night and firefighters managed to bring it under control only Friday afternoon.
The market had an estimated 20,000 stalls and drew some 50,000 shoppers every day, authorities added.
