A young woman and a 5-year-old boy were shot and wounded at an anti-violence event Saturday at a Central Florida park.
The shooting happened at a Stop the Violence barbecue at Aline McWhite Park in Avon Park. The boy was hit in the arm and a 20-year-old woman was shot in the back, according to fox13news.com.
Police said gunshots sounded around 5:30 p.m., and as participants ran in panic, the two were shot.
Several rivalries from Avon Park and Sebring had gathered nearby, and the gunshots came from that area, according to wtsp.com.
The boy has been released from the hospital, but the woman is undergoing further treatment.
The Highland County Sheriff’s Office is investigating.
