A shooting during a memorial gathering late Saturday in Clearwater killed a 27-year-old man, police said.
Just before midnight, Markeen Prim, of Clearwater, was at a gathering of about 500 people at a home near the intersection of Howard Street and Tioga Avenue to remember someone who died in an ATV accident years ago, Clearwater police spokesman Rob Shaw said.
Outside the house, gun shots went off and hit Prim, who was standing on Howard Street. He was taken to Morton Plant Hospital and died minutes later, Shaw said.
It is unknown why the shooting occurred.

"The bottom line is that somebody saw something, knows something, heard something," Shaw said, "and we need them to help us by coming forward by talking to our detectives."
