Sailboat strikes power line, stops marine traffic

Police were shocked to find a power line toppled over by a sailboat traveling down New River.

Fort Lauderdale police shut down the river around 2 p.m. Monday until all of the transmission line wires have been cleared at 401 SW Fourth Ave.

Authorities said traffic will be closed anywhere from four to six hours. Pedestrian traffic has also been restricted in the area of SW Second and Fourth Avenues.

FPL said 13,000 people lost power, but only for one minute.

No one was seriously injured, but one man was taken to the hospital by Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue. He said he felt a shock.
