A 20-year-old man has been charged with raping a 13-year-old girl, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.
An arrest report did not say when the attack happened, but Juan Pablo Valerio was charged Wednesday.
The girl was walking on a Bradenton street when she saw Valerio, who called out to her. Valerio is the cousin of a friend of the victim, the sheriff's office said. Valerio began walking with the girl, and when they came to a church, Valerio said he wanted to show her something and they went to the end of the church parking lot, near a tree.
That's when Valerio attacked the girl, according to an arrest report.

After the attack, Valerio told the girl "not to say anything and that he would give her anything she wanted," the report states. The victim also received text messages in which Valerio asked the girl if she was mad at him.
During an interview with investigators, Valerio denied attacking the girl, but investigators also developed probable cause to charge him with domestic battery for a Nov. 17 incident involving a cousin, according to the report.
Valerio is on probation for an aggravated assault conviction in Florida, according to the sheriff's office.
Valerio is being held without bond at the Manatee County jail on charges of sexual battery and domestic battery, as well as violating his probation.
