The police officer who shot and killed a South Florida church musician on an I-95 ramp was fired Thursday by the city of Palm Beach Gardens.
The city announced the firing in a press release, according to the Palm Beach Post.
Jones, 31, was shot last month while he was waiting for a tow truck to tend to his disabled car. Palm Beach Gardens police detective Nouman Raja, on a burglary detail, pulled up in an unmarked van without uniform or badge.
After a confrontation, Jones was shot dead. Raja was fired on Thursday. A lawyer for the Jones family said the musician did not fire his weapon.
The FBI and the Palm Beach COunty state attorney are investigating the shooting.
