The University of Florida Police Department alerted students overnight to threats of a campus shooting made by more than a dozen Twitter users across the country, but said the credibility of the statements on social media is low.
In an alert sent shortly before 1 a.m., UFPD said University Athletic Association staffers alerted officers to the threats.
"The messages were received from 15 separate account holders from throughout the United States and all arrived at the same time," the department said. "The threat was not specific but indicated 'Im (sic) gonna shoot up the college tomorrow.' The UFPD is also aware that at least one other university has received a similar threat that involved the use of a social media posting that ultimately was determined to be a hoax."
According to the department, campus police are working with the FBI to investigate and ask anyone with information to call 352-392-1111 .
