Police arrested a Big Pine Key man Wednesday for stealing from a church while serving community service, according to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.
Brian Sheppard, 22, had been working at Vineyard Community Church earlier this year as a part of his probation when he took the opportunity to steal computer equipment, an air compressor and more, and sell them to a local pawn shop.
After the church’s pastor and his son noticed the items were missing, they found them at the pawn shop and reported them stolen on Monday.
Sheppard confessed to stealing and pawning the items and is now facing charges of grand theft, dealing in stolen property and fraud, according to the sheriff’s office.
