A concourse at Miami International Airport that had been shut down after a bomb threat Wednesday morning reopened shortly after noon, according to Miami-Dade police.

Concourse J in the South Terminal was closed around 9:30 a.m. after a passenger checking in commented about having explosives in his luggage, police said.

The Miami-Dade bomb squad was called in as a precautionary measure, but no explosives were found.

Manuel Alberto Alvarado, 60, later stated that he was joking, police said. He was arrested and charged with one count of bomb hoax and one count of criminal mischief.

Alvarado was scheduled to fly to Caracas, Venezuela, on Avianca Airlines.
