The Key West Police Department has arrested a deputy with the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, charging him with domestic abuse.
Based on an outstanding warrant, Key West police arrested Deputy Edgar Piniero on charges of domestic battery. The charges stem from an incident that occurred May 5, when the 37-year-old deputy called his ex-girlfriend “obscene names and allegedly spit in her face,” according to the Sheriff’s Office.
Piniero was booked into the Monroe County Detention Center Friday.
The Sheriff’s Office said Piniero was hired in January 2003. He works in the department’s Court Security program at the Key West Courthouse, though he has been suspended from the job “until resolution of the case, and the outcome of a Sheriff’s Office internal review,” the department said.
