Broward Sheriff’s Office traffic homicide detectives are investigating a crash that killed a pedestrian early Sunday in Central Broward.
It happened about 3:40 a.m. on U.S. 441 near Fort Lauderdale.
Detectives said Alastair Crowell was driving his 1993 Buick Regal southbound in the left lane of U.S. 441 as he approached Southwest 16th Street.
A 47-year-old pedestrian was walking west across U.S. 441.
Crowell said he saw the pedestrian near the median and moved into the center lane. However, the pedestrian apparently did not see Crowell’s vehicle and continued across the road and into his path.
The man was struck by the passenger-side front bumper of Crowell’s car. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Crowell remained at the crash scene. The dead man was not immediately identified.
