Miami’s Top 5: Rhyme time, tennis time, cooking time, and more

As part of last year’s O, Miami festival, Jose Marti (or at least local actor Ivan Lopez as the Cuban hero) rode a white horse down Eighth Street in Miami handing out white roses and stopping to recite poetry along the way.

Here’s what Miami is talking about Wednesday:

1. Poetry in motion: It’s time to rhyme (hey, we just did it!) as the annual O, Miami poetry festival starts on Wednesday with a boat trip down the Miami River. The mission: to help everyone in Miami encounter a poem in April. Visit omiami.org for a full schedule.

2. On the court: Venus Williams was ousted at the Miami Open, but sister Serena Williams will face Sabine Lisicki of Germany in a 1 p.m. match.

3. Holiday cooking: If you’re making the goodies for Passover on Friday night or for Easter Sunday, you better get to work. Start with baking. And don’t forget the pea salad.

4. Back from the ‘60s: Once upon a time, there was a plan to build a mega-airport in the Everglades. While that plan died, a new plan to revive the old Everglades Jetport site with a major air show has taken off.

5. New York state of mind: The UM Hurricane basketball team is preparing to face Stanford in the NIT champsionship game at Madison Square Garden on Thursday night after a come-from-behind victory
