Another head-on crash kills man on U.S. 1 in Key Largo

A 35-year-old man was killed in an auto crash early Saturday morning, the second traffic fatality on U.S. 1 in the Florida Keys since Wednesday, says the Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers said the man, identified as David Theisen of Homestead, was driving a 2000 Dodge Ram pickup south on the inside northbound lane at mile marker 105 in Key Largo about 1:15 a.m. Traveling north in the inside lane in a 2013 Honda Pilot was Amanda Congemi, 27, of Key Largo.

A passenger in the Pilot, Michael Weisberg, 19, of Pembroke Pines, was treated for injuries at Mariners. He and Congemi were wearing seatbelts; the pickup driver was not.

Wednesday around noon, a 25-year-old Miami man was killed at mile marker 42 on the Seven Mile Bridge when his Nissan Altima crashed head-on into a Mustang driven by an Ohio woman.
