Everglades Elementary School recently celebrated Peace Day with a school program that included music, poetry and the Pinwheels for Peace Art Installation Project.

Pinwheels for Peace was started in 2005 by two Florida instructors, Ann Ayers and Ellen McMillan, as a way for students to voice their opinion about what’s going on in the world.

The school’s Peace Day celebration started with a parade that included students marching to the field with pinwheels in hand, then lining up to create a peace sign. The program ended with Assistant Principal Rita DePasquale leading students to the front of the school to plant their pinwheels.
