A carjacking, a shootout and a bullet-riddled police vehicle

A Miami-Dade police officer’s vehicle was shot up during a shootout with two men suspected of an earlier carjacking.

The officer wasn’t injured and the shooters got away.

Police hadn’t released many details by Monday morning. But according to Miami-Dade police, an officer working near Northwest 52nd Street and 24th Court at 10:15 Friday night spotted a 2014 Dodge Charger that was reported carjacked a day earlier in Miami.

Police said when the officer working a detail in an unmarked vehicle pulled alongside the Charger and began speaking with two men standing nearby, they opened fire. The officer’s car was struck several times.

The officer returned fire, police said, and the the men ran.

Backup was called and police set up a perimeter, but the men managed to avoid police. Police said they weren’t sure if either of the men was injured during the shootout.
