Teen brothers robbed inside Miami-Dade home

Two Southwest Miami-Dade teen brothers were roughed up in a robbery at their home on Monday morning.

“My kids are good kids,” said the teens’ mother, Martha Martinez. “They were sleeping when this happened.”

Martinez said she, her boyfriend and her 3-year-old daughter left their home at 14100 SW 281st St. around 8:30 a.m., leaving her 15-year-old and 19-year-old sons inside.

“Mom and Dad had left the house leaving the two boys behind,” said Miami-Dade police Detective Alvaro Zabaleta. “That’s when one of the boys heard a noise coming from inside the house.”

When he walked out he was confronted in the living room by a robber with a bandana or a T-shirt over his head, Zabaleta said.

“He was immediately struck with some type of blunt object, several times over the head,” he said.

Police said a second subject attacked the 15-year-old.

After taking jewelry and other items from teens and their home, police said both robbers took off. The teens were taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital.
