A 15-year-old girl is in critical condition Monday after being struck in the back while sitting in a vehicle in the parking lot of an apartment complex shortly after midnight Sunday.
Miami-Dade police say Shanetta Gilbert, 15, was in a car parked at an apartment at 5000 NW 24th Ave., just after midnight when someone opened fire. A bullet struck her in the back.
She was taken by ambulance to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center in critical condition, police said. Two others in the car, both 15-year-old males, were not injured.
As that was happening, bullets believed to have come from the same shooter struck a car driving along Northwest 50th Street outside the complex. The driver struck placed the car in reverse to try and get away, but lost control and crashed into a fence, police said.
