At a special meeting Monday night, Sweetwater Mayor Jose Diaz and City Attorney Ralph Ventura will ask the commission to approve a $25,000 settlement in the case of a K-9 unit police officer requesting overtime pay.
In August, officer Jenna Méndez sued the city in federal court under the Fair Labor Standards Act for working overtime to care for more than one dog in the K-9 unit. Since August 2011, Méndez said she was only paid to care for a single dog.
Ventura said in September that Méndez asked Sweetwater for $24,568 in overtime pay.
The Special Commission Meeting begins at 7 p.m. in the commission chambers on 500 SW 109 Ave.
