What began as an armed carjacking in Allapattah Wednesday evening, ended with one man in custody, another man on the run, four cars damaged and Interstate-95 clogged, according to police.
It all began at about 7:30 p.m. when two men stole a Nissan Murano from a driver at gunpoint at Northwest 11th Avenue and 28th Street, said Frederica Burden, a Miami police spokeswoman.
“They took off driving through the city,” Burden said. “An officer spotted the offenders’ car and once they realized that an officer was behind them they took off and and tried to get away using I-95.”
Burden said the two-person unit pursued. The car headed north in the express lanes and crashed into three other cars between 62nd and 69th streets, Burden said. The offenders then took off on foot. No one was injured, but the Murano and the three other cars were “banged up,” Burden said.
