North Miami Beach Mayor George Vallejo is facing an investigation by the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office but so far the details are murky.
“I’d like to be able to talk more about it but there’s only so much I can say right now,” Vallejo said in the video.
He does not specify what prompted the investigation or any other details but Local 10 News cited unidentified sources as saying the case involves a recent real estate transaction in which the property brokerage firm Allied Florida Group Inc. was involved. Allied’s owner is Vallejo’s wife, Sandra Shinego. Vallejo is a registered real estate broker and, according to his LinkedIn page, works for the company.

In the video, Vallejo calls out political opponents.
“In a process that’s supposed to be confidential, some lobbyists and political enemies have been taking this opportunity to spread malicious gossip in order to smear me and undermine all of the tough decisions we’ve had to make in order to improve our city,” Vallejo said in the post.
Vallejo, 49, was first elected as mayor in 2011 and won reelection to another four-year term automatically in 2015 when he faced no challengers.
