Wearing fluorescent yellow shirts with the words “Peace Officer,” more than a dozen North Miami police officers took to the streets earlier this month for a community bicycle ride.

“It’s a great opportunity to engage with the community,” said Larry Juriga, North Miami’s police chief. “The most recent bike ride was a display of unity as we promoted peace.”

For the last three years, officers have been doing weekly ”Peace and Unity” bicycle rides as a way to engage with the community.

For the most recent ride, which was held July 2, the officers were joined by North Miami elected officials, staff members, residents and community partners. Also part of the pack: North Miami’s three-member mounted patrol.

During the 60-minute ride, the officers handed out masks, spoke with people at businesses and engaged with children in the street.
