The heavy white smoke blowing across North Miami just after Tuesday’s sunrise came from a second-floor fire in an apartment building.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue said the blaze, which began in the northwest corner of 12645 NE 11th Ave., took 30 minutes to get under control and around 75 minutes to put out. In that time, fire reached two apartments and smoke damaged four apartments.
The damage put 19 adults and five children out of their homes. None suffered injuries. The Red Cross has been contacted for assistance.
The two-story building is one of 15 1950-built structures comprising the De Lux Court complex owned by Delux Court Apartments.
