$20,000 stolen from car console of McDonald’s customer eating inside restaurant

Miami Springs police are searching for one or more thieves who pried open a car door while a McDonald’s customer and his family ate dinner and stole a bag containing $20,000 in cash from the center console.

The victim, a 43-year-old Brazilian tourist, stopped for dinner with his wife and three kids at 10 p.m. on Jan. 14 at the McDonald’s in the 4500 block of NW 36th Street, shortly after arriving at the airport.

Other property taken included five Brazilian passports, luggage and various personal items.

The victim did not return an email from the Herald asking why $20,000 in cash was left unattended in the car.

If you have any information on this theft, call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
