El Portal on Wednesday hired a new village clerk.
The village council voted 3-1 to hire Diana Rios, an administrative assistant for insurance company Bowring Marsh Latam.
Previous clerk Carolina Montealegre departed in April for personal reasons. She served as the village clerk and permit clerk for five years.
After Montealegre left, 15 people sought the job. The field was then narrowed to three: Rios; Kevin Gonzalez, who works as district assistant for state Rep. Kionne McGhee, D-Miami; and Sabrina Paul Noel, who works as a development communications and operations manager for the Archdiocese of Miami.
Mayor Claudia Cubillos said the village sought someone who could be dedicated to El Portal.
“We are looking for a dynamic team player with strong work ethic looking to come in, learn, grow and be a part of this amazing village,” she said before the vote.
The process started about two weeks ago. The position currently is part time and pays $30,000, but it could become full time.
