Judge denies Miami Lakes’ second motion to dismiss Mayor Pizzi’s legal-fees lawsuit

Mayor Michael Pizzi was acquitted of federal bribery charges in August 2014, and then spent months fighting to regain the mayor seat. He came back to office in the spring, then sued the town for $3.25 million for both his federal and reinstatement cases.

A Miami Circuit Court judge on Tuesday denied Miami Lakes’ second motion to dismiss Mayor Michael Pizzi’s lawsuit to recover legal fees associated with his reinstatement cases.

Judge Jorge Cueto’s decision came about two weeks after he released a five-page opinion that stated that Pizzi is entitled to pursue his lawsuit to be reimbursed for costs associated with his reinstatement as mayor.

The town now has 10 days to respond to Cueto’s decision.
