It looked like the Regal South Beach was closing. And then a plot twist

If you happened to check out the Regal South Beach Stadium 18’s Facebook page Tuesday night, you might have been startled to see the words “Permanently Closed” written twice — in green and red typeface — on the right side of the screen.

A quick check to Fandango and Moviefone seemed to confirm the impression that the theater was closing: There were no show times available after the evening of Thursday, Sept. 1.

But Rachel Lueras, national marketing manager for Regal Cinemas, says moviegoers shouldn’t fret. The Facebook posting was a technical glitch, and the theater’s upcoming shows hadn’t yet been added to the online ticketing sites.

“This was simply an error with the Google location information,” she said. “This theatre is open for regularly scheduled business.”

Opened in 1999, the Regal South Beach Stadium 18, located at 1120 Lincoln Rd., anchors a 160,000 square foot development purchased last year by the New York-based Vornado Realty Trust for $140 million. The property is managed by the Comras Company.
