Critical Mass cyclist hits pedestrian in Miami Beach

A pedestrian was struck by a bike rider during the Critical Mass cycling event in Miami Beach Friday.

Miami Beach police tweeted that the crash took place on 71st Street and Bay Drive West around 8 p.m. Miami Beach Police spokesman Ernesto Rodriguez said, the pedestrian, a man in his 70s, did not cross the street fast enough and was hit by a cyclist. The biker stayed while the elderly man was sent to Jackson Memorial Hospital as a precaution, because he hit his head when he fell.

The event, which is designed to draw attention to the danger of cycling in Miami, takes place on the last Friday of every month.
