UPDATE: The county has canceled the work scheduled for Wednesday night.

The east drawbridge of the Venetian Causeway will be locked in the up position for up to 30 minutes at a time over several hours during repairs late Tuesday night and again for an hour on Wednesday night.

From midnight to 3 a.m. Tuesday night and 11 p.m. to midnight Wednesday night, the Miami-Dade transportation department will be replacing the lifting mechanism for the bridge. The work will require the bridge to be open for up to 30 minutes at a time.

Drivers who need to cross that drawbridge should use alternate routes, like the Julia Tuttle Causeway or the MacArthur Causeway.

For more information, the public can call the county at 311 or 305-468-5900.

This work precedes a longer closure of the bridge to fix a bevy of issues in September. That construction is expected to be done by December.
