A dump truck rollover sprayed debris across the westbound lanes of the Julia Tuttle Causeway (Interstate 195) Tuesday afternoon, closing the busy thoroughfare for hours and clogging traffic.

By about 5 p.m. traffic was once again moving — although slowly.

“There was a big mess to clean up,” said Joe Sanchez, a Florida Highway Patrol spokesman.

The truck rolled from the eastbound side to the westbound lanes at about 2 p.m., police said. The truck driver was injured but it was not clear how badly. No one else was hurt.

While crews cleaned up the mess, Miami Beach Police were advising alternate routes including the Venetian Causeway and the MacArthur Causeway.
