Southbound Alton Road on Miami Beach will be shut down at 29th Street into late morning after a two-car crash that left one car on its side around 9 a.m.
A witness said that a car coming from the northbound lanes hit a tree in the median. It ended on its side in the southbound lanes with the hood crushed by the impact with the grill of a southbound sedan.
Both drivers were transported to hospitals. The driver of the southbound car was saved by her airbag. The driver of the northbound, flipped car was extricated and put on a stretcher with a head brace.
Northbound traffic went down to one lane. Southbound traffic is being detoured onto Bay Road.
