The Delano in South Beach will no longer stand alone in the world.
Parent company Morgans Hotel Group announced Tuesday that a 73-room Delano in Marrakech, Morocco is set to open in September. A Mondrian in Marrakech is expected to open late in 2013.
Morgans entered a partnership with Ahmed Bennani, a Moroccan entrepreneur, and Hivernage Collection. The company signed a 15-year management agreement for both hotels.
The Delano in North Africa will be the second in the world, though Morgans has previously announced several other expansion projects for the brand. They include a Delano in Turkey and Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, both announced in 2011.
At the time, the company said both hotels were expected to open in early 2013, but an annual report filed in March with the Securities and Exchange Commission said the expected date was 2014. The company also warned that financing for some of its upcoming projects has not been secured.
Other expansion plans include Mondrian hotels in Turkey, Qatar, London and Nassau in the Bahamas as well as a Hudson in London.
Morgans manages hotels in Miami Beach, Boston, New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Mexico and London. The company owns or has ownership interest in many of those hotels, including the Delano, Shore Club and Mondrian in South Beach.
