Two tourists were killed after the personal watercraft they were on crashed into a concrete bridge support near Star Island, authorities said.
Julio Monteiro, 30, of Brockton, Mass., and Sabrina LaShea Daniels, 34, of Atlanta, Ga., were aboard the craft traveling east Monday afternoon when it crashed into a bridge support north off the MacArthur Causeway, according to Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission spokeswoman Carol Lyn Parrish. Both Daniels and Monteiro, who was operating the craft, were thrown overboard by the force of the crash, the FWC statement said.
FWC officers received and responded to a call around 5:30 p.m. reporting the accident and both tourists were taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center where they died, the agency said.
The FWC is investigating.
