Among the signals that houseguests might have stayed too long, even in a seven-bedroom, six-bathroom 4,300-square foot house: arguments that end in stabbings.
Such a Sunday afternoon disagreement, police say, between houseguests from Louisiana and their Miami Beach hosts drew cops to 5150 Pine Tree Drive Sunday afternoon, sent one man to Jackson Memorial Hospital with stab wounds to his back and two people to jail.
Those two people, Tiaijia Hilliard and Brandon Jackson of Baton Rouge, spent the last four months staying with Jackson’s friend of 10 years, Malcolm Sawyer, in the $1.7 million Pine Tree Drive home owned by Dr. Michael Sension, 57. Sunday night, Hilliard and Jackson, each 25, stayed with other inmates at Turner-Guilford Knight Correctional Center. Hilliard was charged with two counts of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon while Jackson got one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
Sawyer, 27, spent the night at Jackson Memorial Hospital after taking what police described as non-life threatening wounds, three stab wounds to the back from Hilliard.

According to the arrest reports, Jackson and Sawyer got into an argument that devolved into trading pushes. Hilliard grabbed two knives from the kitchen, circled behind Sawyer and stabbed him. As Sension tried to restrain the woman with two knives, she sliced the middle finger of his left hand.
While Sension called 911, Jackson got the knives from Hilliard. Jackson then resumed his debate with Sawyer but with his side of the argument buttressed, Sension told police, by a knife to Sawyer’s chest. Sawyer managed to run away into the pool house and towards the garage.
Police claim Hilliard later blurted out to an officer, “I acted on impulse and I made a mistake.”
