Key Biscayne approves deal for public access to beach behind new condos

The Key Biscayne Village Council passed a resolution last week that will give residents year-round access to the beach along the north and south sides of the Oceana Key Biscayne condo development.

Consultatio Key Biscayne, the firm building the 154-unit building, agreed to provide beach-access easements so all residents can access the beaches behind the condo site.

The village’s agreement with the developer provides two easements for beach access from Oceana’s property line. The first easement runs along Ocean Drive and the second runs along East Heather Drive.

Pedestrians and bicyclists can use the paths freely. Emergency vehicles, beach maintenance vehicles and golf carts are the only vehicles allowed to use the paths.

Consultatio will take on the cost of paving, landscaping, fencing, lighting and maintaining the easement areas as needed.

The Village Council unanimously accepted the beach-access easements at its Aug. 6 special council meeting.
