A cat had to be rescued and two houses were destroyed after a fire started in one home and spread to the other early Tuesday evening in Kendale Lakes, according to Miami-Dade Fire Rescue.

The fire ripped through a home at about 5 p.m. at Southwest 132nd Court and 86th Lane and spread to a neighboring home because of the wind, Lt. Felipe Lay said.

The woman in the first home was able to get out. Her cat, Coconut Raindrop, needed oxygen after suffering from smoke inhalation. The cat was expected to be OK.

No one was inside the neighboring home but it “suffered pretty extensive damage,” Lay said.
