Boy runs into traffic in Hialeah, suffers head injury

An 11-year-old boy suffered a head injury and was struck by a car after running into traffic in Hialeah Wednesday afternoon near a busy elementary school.

At about 5:30 p.m., the boy inexplicably ran onto West 16th Avenue just down the street from the Marcus A. Milam K-8 Center, a fire rescue official said. He sustained abrasions on his body and hit his head, said Cpt. Cesar Espinosa of Hialeah Fire Rescue. It’s possible he lost consciousness upon impact.

When Fire Rescue arrived, the boy was alert and awake, but “he may have had some loss of consciousness” during the accident, Espinosa said. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Carl Zogby, a Hialeah Police spokesman, said he was unsure if the boy was a student at the Milam school, but that he did not sustain any major injuries.

“He’s fine,” Zogby said.
