Police say a Liberty City man stabbed two people, who neighbors identified as his mother and her boyfriend, before being taken into custody on Tuesday.
Miami police said the boyfriend, identified as 41-year-old Haratio Cooke, was killed and the mother, identified as 39-year-old Latrina Morrow, was in surgery at Jackson Memorial Hospital. Police later identified the man as Tyrone Hubbert, 23. He was charged with one count of first degree murder and one count of attempted murder.
Yvonne Johnson, who said she was homeless but frequents the area, said she saw the attack, which started on Northwest 64th Street just off Second Avenue and ended with one man dead behind one of the housing project buildings almost a block away.
“His mom ran out of the door saying, ‘Please baby, don’t do this to me, I love you, I love you,’ ” Johnson said. “The mother’s boyfriend ran out behind them. He turned the knife on his mama, kept stabbing her, kept stabbing her. Then, he turned around to his step dad and stabbed him.”
