A wild early morning car chase that included a crash and gunfire ended with one man’s death, another clinging to life and a third in custody.
Police had not released the names of any of the men or said what caused the incident that left several downtown Miami streets closed, as of late Wednesday morning.
“One preson has been detained. The motive, we’re trying to unravel,” said Miami police spokeswoman Kenia Fallat.
Late Monday morning police were still trying to gather evidence and piece together a timeline. They weren’t certain where the chase began, but the cars were seen hurtling down Biscayne Boulevard, then turning west into downtown.

At one point, a witness told NBC6 that when one of the vehicles careened into a light pole the driver of the other car jumped out and began shooting. The shooter tried to escape but crashed into another car.
One man was killed and another is in the hospital in critical condition, Fallat said. A law enforcement source said the shooter has not been cooperative with police.
The incident happened at about 2 a.m. and the shooting occurred near Southeast Third Avenue and Second Street. Several streets in downtown Miami were closed into the early morning rush hour.
