Cutler Bay Police Major Julie Miller will step down from her post Dec. 31 after 30 years of law enforcement service.

Miller, 49, started her career at age 20 working uniformed patrol in the Cutler Ridge District. She was later promoted to sergeant and worked for the Miami-Dade County police investigative unit. She was assigned to internal affairs, PortMiami, and did district road work before being promoted to lieutenant. Miller worked in community affairs and also ran the county’s DARE program. She served in the investigations and economic crimes bureau before being promoted to captain and serving in Cutler Bay for nine years.

The part-time glass-mosaic artist has a son and daughter in college. She grew up in Cutler Ridge. Miller expects the town to begin a search for her replacement in the coming months.

Cutler Bay contracts with Miami-Dade County for the town’s police ‘major’ position, while other cities have police ‘chiefs.’
