More than 200 Cutler Bay residents and neighbors celebrated United States servicemen and women on May 20 at an Armed Forces Day event at Lakes by the Bay Park.
National Armed Forces Day has been celebrated annually on the third Saturday in May since 1949.
Attendees enjoyed food trucks and live music by Matt Anderson as they learned about the military. A Humvee and A-ATV vehicles from the U.S. Army were on site. A helicopter, D.A.R.E. vehicle, a Miami-Dade Police Department vehicle and a fire truck from Miami-Dade Fire Rescue were also present. Attendees were given K-9 demonstrations by Miami-Dade Police. There was a giant military obstacle course, a rock climbing wall and a Home Depot workshop for kids.
Cutler Bay Vice Mayor Sue Ellen Loyzelle and Councilman Roger Coriat attended.

“Members of the armed forces go above and beyond the call of duty to keep all of us safe,” Loyzelle said. “I am so proud that the Town has put together such a great event, to show gratitude to these brave men and women, who make our lives safer every day!”
