Plans for the Blue Starlite Mini Urban Drive-In to relocate from Wynwood to Coconut Grove have been delayed.
Josh Frank, the Texas native behind the urban drive-in, had initially planned for the theater to hold its grand opening Monday night with The Cocoanuts as its first screening movie. However, due to an issue with a city permit and a need for more preparation time, he decided to push the grand opening to July 14.
Aside from permit concerns, Frank also wanted to improve the guests’ experience. He said the first few weeks are always filled with a lot tweaks such as testing out where things need to be placed, the new dimensions, which car spaces might not have the best view, etc. This extra time would allow for him to address and solve any of those problems before the grand opening.
Thanks to the delay, there is also more time to fill in any empty spaces and sell more advance tickets. The new location is able to accommodate 35 cars as opposed to the 20-car limit at Wynwood.

Frank recommends reservations due to the limited spaces.
The schedule for the movies that were to be shown during the initial grand opening in June have all been shifted to July. They will be playing in the same order and any customer that purchased tickets to the initial showings ahead of time, will be allowed to attend on the new date or can select another movie.
For the most part, reactions to the change have been positive and understanding. For an updated look at the Blue Starlite Mini Urban Drive-In movie listings, pricing information, and food policy look on their official website, www.miamiurbandrivein.com.
