Aventura Hospital and Medical Center’s expansion plans are in motion after Aventura commissioners approved the hospital’s request for a change in the open-space requirement during Tuesday’s commission meeting.
Floor area ratio is square footage of floor space based upon lot size and the building’s height.
Aventura city code states that a ratio of 1.28 is the maximum allowed floor area for a nine-story building.
In 2002, Aventura approved a 1.35 ratio for a new hospital tower. This week, the city commission approved a 1.38 ratio for an emergency room expansion.
The 15,190 foot expansion of the emergency room will house 22 exam rooms, conference room, staff lounge, multipurpose room, service and support room and a surface area parking garage.
All commissioners approved the proposal.
“This is needed and you have my support,” Commissioner Teri Holzberg said. “You have my vote 100 percent.”
▪ Police Department: The Florida Department of Law Enforcement applied for a $10,000 Justice Assistance Grant to buy a speed display trailer with an automatic license plate reader. All commissioners voted in favor of the grant, and the resolution was passed and adopted.
▪ School Uniforms: The city commissioners adopted a resolution for a two-year contract with Chai Tees, LLC, a uniform company, because of the low cost of uniforms, proximity to Aventura City of Excellence School, and experience with serving schools in the area.
▪ Turnberry Towers: City commissioners adopted an easement of dedication from Turnberry Towers Condominium Association to install a 6-foot-wide sidewalk on the east side of Turnberry Way. The sidewalk will improve pedestrian safety.
