The first time the man entered the cellphone store in Southwest Miami-Dade, he spoke to the clerk for a while — police say all the while casing the store.
He left then returned 15 minutes later and implied he had a gun and demanded that the clerk go in the back to retrieve cellphones, Miami-Dade police said.
While the clerk was in the back, the man grabbed cellphones on display — which set off the alarms — and took off.
Detectives are hoping surveillance video of the July 10 robbery from inside the AT&T store, 7136 SW 40th St., will help them identify the man. The same man, detectives say, may be responsible for several robberies and thefts from other cellphone stores stretching from Palm Beach to southwest Miami-Dade.
The man is described as heavyset, approximately 300 pounds, about six feet tall and balding. He was last seen wearing a light-colored polo shirt, jeans and glasses.
He can be seen in the video with a towel on his shoulder and walking with a limp.
Anyone with information is asked to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS (8477).
