Driver pulled from Miami River after minivan plunges into water

Divers pulled a man out of the Miami River in critical condition after crashing his minivan into the water.

Witnesses said they saw the trapped man banging on the window inside the vehicle as it sank into the water near NW 12th Avenue and 14th Street. No one else was inside.

Miami Fire Rescue were able to pull him out and transport him to Ryder Trauma Center in extremely critical condition. Paramedics were performing CPR along the way to the hospital, but 24-year-old Ciro Curra died of his injuries, Miami Police said on Twitter.

“No foul play suspected at this time,” the tweet read.

Crews later removed the minivan from the water. Police haven’t said what may have caused the accident.
